UV Light Sanitation

We take pride in our sanitation efforts that go above and beyond industry standards. Our LaundrOclean™ UVC light rolling cart sanitizer uses only light. It does NOT emit ozone, which is important because ozone is harmful to humans and must be thoroughly removed from a room before people can enter. The UV germicidal lamp kills pathogens in the air and on any surfaces the light touches and has been laboratory certified to kill 99.9% of the most difficult-to-kill bacteria within 30 minutes. 254 wavelength UVC light is also known to inactivate viruses.

UVC radiation has been shown to destroy the outer protein coating of the SARS-Coronavirus, which is a different virus from the current SARS-CoV-2 virus. The destruction ultimately leads to inactivation of the virus. UVC radiation may also be effective in inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the virus that causes the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

MicroChem Laboratory

UV light has been tested very successfully for various strains of difficult to kill pathogens. Even though not tested for viral species, they have achieved almost total kill on the microorganisms, a gram negative and a gram positive, so it is likely to be effective against viruses also.

The International Ultraviolet Association

UV disinfection technologies can play a role in a multiple barrier approach to reducing the transmission of the virus causing COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, based on current disinfection data and empirical evidence. UV is a known disinfectant for air, water and surfaces that can help to mitigate the risk of acquiring an infection in contact with the COVID-19 virus when applied correctly. “The IUVA has assembled leading experts from around the world to develop guidance on the effective use of UV technology, as a disinfection measure, to help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 virus. Established in 1999, the IUVA is a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of ultraviolet technologies to help address public health and environmental concerns,” says Dr. Ron Hofmann, Professor at the University of Toronto, and President of the IUVA. It must be noted that “UVC”, “UV disinfection” and “UV” as used here and in the scientific, medical and technical literature, specifically and importantly refers to UVC light energy (200-280 nm light) in the germicidal range which is not the same as the UVA and UVB used in tanning beds or sunlight exposure.

Are UVC disinfection devices safe?

Like any disinfection system, UVC devices must be used properly to be safe. They all produce varying amounts of UVC light in wavelengths of 200 nm-280 nm. This UVC light is much “stronger” than normal sunlight, and can cause a severe sunburn-like reaction to your skin, and similarly, could damage the retina of your eye, if exposed. Some devices also produce ozone as part of their cycle, others produce light and heat like an arc welder, others move during their cycles. Hence, general machine-human safety needs to be considered with all disinfection devices, and these considerations are addressed, in our attendant training, and with appropriate safety compliance measures.

For this reason, LaundrOclean™ will ONLY use our UV lights around our customers with a custom shroud designed specifically to protect against any harmful UV exposure. An authorized attendant and proper signage is also in place during any application.

Frequently Asked Questions

UVC (also known as ultraviolet type-C) light is a light wavelength naturally emitted by the sun but blocked by our ozone layer. UVC light has the power to render microorganisms inactive by breaking down their DNA, killing them in the process. In recent years, modern science has been able to harness this light into fluorescent bulbs for the purpose of sanitization and pathogen disposal.

Yes. If humans, animals, or even plants are exposed to UVC light for a long enough period of time, the light will begin to damage their genetic material. In the case of humans and animals, this means damaging the skin cells and eye cells, which is why it is extremely important to wear protective equipment while operating or being in the vicinity of a UVC light device.

Yes, absolutely! We have a custom designed shroud that was manufactured entirely to ensure customer safety. Attendants, and proper signage, will be present during ALL applications. Our process also has built in safety features specifically designed to keep the user safe. These features include automatic shut off switches to prevent over extended UV exposure.

The UV bulbs in our sanitizer destroys any pathogens they come into contact with by virtue of the UVC light wavelength’s ability to completely break down the pathogens’ DNA and render it inactive.

Highly effective, and we have lab results posted on our website to guarantee it. Our devices have been shown to kill 99.99% of many dangerous pathogens including staph, salmonella, canine cough, and more.

Yes! UV-C light will break down mold spores and help to prevent future mold growth.

While we haven’t been able to directly test our products on the COVID-19 virus, other UVC light devices have been tested on COVID-19 and have been found to successfully kill 99.99% of COVID-19 virus in under a minute. Those studies were conducted using LED bulbs. We use fluorescent bulbs in our process which are stronger and more efficient, but use the same UVC wavelength and are therefore just as effective as an LED bulb.

It depends on the product, but on average it takes 10-15 minutes for proper sanitization. For larger spaces that need UVC treatment, it is recommended the lamps be used for 20-30 minutes to ensure that the areas furthest from the device are being sanitized.

Note – LaundrOclean™ inserts the lamp directly into each and every machine at our laundry. UVC light will begin killing microorganisms in seconds because of our placement of the lamps within 24- 36” of potentially contaminated surfaces.

No. Our process does NOT give off ozone.

Our process does NOT use heat to kill pathogens; only light. The bulbs in our products do not give off much heat, about as much as a typical fluorescent bulb.

That odor is normal. It is created by the UV light destroying pathogens and also incinerating hair and skin cells that were in the area during treatment. It should dissipate in 5-10 minutes without further notice.
